Differentially coherent code acquisition in the MIMO-aided multi-carrier DS-CDMA downlink

چکیده
Both differentially coherent and non-coherent code acquisition schemes designed for the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO)-aided multi-carrier (MC)-DS-CDMA downlink are analysed, when communicating over uncorrelated Rayleigh channels. The attainable mean acquisition time (MAT) performance is studied as a function of both the number of multiple transmit/multiple receive antennas and that of the number of subcarriers. It is demonstrated that in contrast to the expectations, when the number of multiple transmit antennas and/or that of the subcarriers is increased in both the differentially coherent and the non-coherent code acquisition scenarios, the achievable MAT deteriorates over the entire signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR) per chip (Ec/Io) range considered, except for the scenario of single-carrier (SC)-DS-CDMA using P 1⁄4 2 transmit antennas and R 1⁄4 1 receive antenna. As expected, the degree of performance degradation depends upon the specific scheme and the Ec/Io ratio considered, although paradoxically, the correctly synchronised MIMO-aided system is capable of attaining its target bit error ratio performance at reduced SINR values.

To combat fading and achieve high performance over wireless channels, multi-antenna techniques, and more specifically Space-Time Block Coding (STBC) techniques, enable multi-antenna diversity gains over Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) channels. Besides, Direct-Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DS-CDMA) has emerged as the predominant multiple access technique for 3G systems because i...

This paper investigates a downlink multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) multi-carrier code division multiple access (MC-CDMA) system with pilot aided channel estimation (PACE) and iterative channel estimation (ICE) in the receiver. Due to the superposition of different users’ spread data signals, zero-valued chips can occur after spreading, which can cause noise enhancement when using data est...

In next generation wireless network, significantly higher rate data services of close to 1Gpbs are expected. Frequency-domain equalisation (FDE) technique may play an important role for broadband data transmission using multi-carrier (MC)and direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA). Th...

The spectral efficiency of a multicarrier direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (MC/DS-CDMA) cellular system operating in a mobile radio environment with Rayleigh fading, is investigated. In this work, spectral efficiency is evaluated in terms of channel capacity (in the Shannon sense) per user, estimated in an average sense. It is analytically shown that, under normalized conditions an...

Abstract In multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) multiplexing, a superposition of data blocks transmitted from different transmit antennas using the same carrier frequency is received. In a frequency-selective channel, joint use of frequency-domain equalization (FDE) and signal detection of parallel transmitted signals is essential. Recently, we proposed an iterative frequency-domain interfere...
